John Bowman's paintings and drawings have been featured in many solo exhibitions in the United States, Europe, and Japan. Among them were exhibitions at various venues in New York City, including the Holly Solomon Gallery, Lang O'Hara Gallery, the Tibor de Nagy Gallery, and the Winston Wachter Gallery. In 1990, he participated in "Romance and Irony in Recent American Art" at the Parrish Museum in Southampton, NY, that traveled to museums in Florida, Australia, and New Zealand. His work was featured in "Fictions", an exhibition curated by Douglas Blau at The Curt Marcus Gallery in New York. "Shoreham and other Paintings" were shown at the Queens Museum in 1991. He participated in "The Silent Baroque," at Galerie Thaddeus Ropac, Salzburg, Austria, "The Road Show, The Automobile in Contemporary Art," John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and "Like Life", at the Aurora Gallery in Prague, in the Czech Republic. In 2002 Bowman participated in a site-specific collaborative exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art/Denver, entitled "Archipelago," and participated in a public symposium concerning the issues in changing perceptions of the landscape. He exhibited erasure drawings in 2003 at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin. In 2007, "More", an exhibition of new paintings was presented at The Winston Wachter Gallery, in New York. Bowman has taught at the New York Academy of Art, and is now an Associate Professor of Art at Pennsylvania State University.
